From the bike station in Funchal, we take the mini bus transfer up to the Poiso Pass at 1,412 m. In the first part of our trail we bike comfortably in the direction of Santo da Serra on roads and dirt trails down to about 600 m in the direction of Santo da Serra. We follow the levada da Serra do Faial in the direction of Camacha, the basketwork village of the island and pause on the way after about 20 km.
Camacha – Levada – Choupana – Funchal
From Camacha we follow the levada towards Choupana with wonderful views of the city of Funchal. From Choupana it's then along the old regional road back to Funchal.
From the bike station in Funchal we drive along the Estrada Monumental (Hotel District) towards Camara de Lobos with various historical and scenic highlights. In Camara de Lobos, the fishing village of the island and home of the Espada fishermen with their special equipment for catching deep-sea fish, we visit the shipyard and take a break in the picturesque streets of the old town.
Camara de Lobos – Harbour Funchal – Garajau – Funchal From Camara de Lobos we drive along the regional road towards the port of Funchal, past the harbor road, until the old town of Santa Maria Maior. From here it goes uphill on the old regional road "Rua Conde do Carvalhal" to Cancela. At "Miradouro das Neves" we enjoy the view of the imposing bay of Funchal and then continue towards Garajau.
At the Cristo Rei statue of Garajau, placed on a promontory - similar to that in Rio de Janeiro - we can take the cable car down to the beach and take a long break there. The last stage is then down old regional roads down to the city of Funchal.
From our bike station in Funchal, we take a minibus transfer up to the second highest peak of the island: to Pico do Arieiro at 1,810 m. A gigantic view of the entire massive of the island awaits us, before it goes downhill via singletrack to the Ecological Park above Funchal.
Into paradiseWe stop at the former shepherd's hut and today's restaurant "Abrigo do Pastor", before we reach the Sítio dos Quatro Estradas in the direction of Santo da Serra on road and dirt trails down to about 600 m. We follow the Levada da Serra do Faial in the direction of Camacha and then the way to Vale Paraiso, the Paradise Valley. Back to Funchal it goes along the old regional road.
From the bike station in Funchal, we take a minibus transfer to Machico, the oldest town in Madeira. Here, the former explorers of the island first landed. In Faja dos Rolos we follow a dirt track and arrive at the Boca do Risco with fantastic views of the rugged north coast, as well as the Eastern Cape.
To the most beautiful panoramic view of Madeira: Portela and then Levada-Biking
Through singletracks we reach Funduras via Portela with fantastic views of the eagle rock of Porto da Cruz. From Portela about 670 m, it goes up to the Levada da Serra and along the Levada to Camacha to Choupana. From here we follow the regional road towards Funchal.
